20 May 1945

Lenny Chertok told me I could move in his tent tonight, which I did. My tent mates are Chertok, M/Sgt. From Philadelphia, M/Sgt. Bice Blythe from Manitowok, Wisconsin and T/Sgt. J.J. O’Brian from E. Greenwood, Connecticut. They are a good bunch of boys and I think I will like it here. Entertainment is nil. The tents do not have floors and are not built up like they were in Guinea which means it is hard to keep things clean. There is a movie across the road at the Navy, but they are running through a series of very old pictures. Most of our time is spent in the tent writing letters and batting the breeze.
