5 November 1944

Cleared Finschhafen at 0500 and continued up the North coast of New Guinea toward Hollandia. It rained early this morning and the sun has only shown through the low hanging clouds at infrequent intervals. It is easy to deduce that we are coming close to the Equator again. The air is heavy, warm and muggy. Our compartment is almost unbearable. Dinner tonight and a Sunday dinner at that, was poor. Consisted of rice with a thin stew poured over it, bread, gingerbread, and coffee. Rumor has it we hit Hollandia in the morning.
